At the center of the mesmerizing here rolling hills, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was to care for his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the gales across the single tree on the peak were his constant co-dwellers. Day upon day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plot.

Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. However, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
